Jason Kidd and Shaquille O'Neal: First Impressions

Michael WhittenbergFeb 20, 2008

The new look Western Conference gave us a glimpse of what to expect this second half of the season Wednesday.

Shaquille O'Neal and Jason Kidd both made their debuts with their new teams Wednesday.

Unfortunately, both debuts were spoiled with losses.

First, the new-look Dallas Mavericks went head-to-head with the New Orleans Hornets—but it was all Chris Paul.

Paul torched Dallas with 31 points, 11 assists, and nine steals.

Kidd, who did start Wednesday, scored eight points and turned the ball over six times.

The Dallas Mavericks lost the game 104-93.

While Kidd's first impression in Dallas wasn't a great one, the Mavs still have a lot to look forward to down the stretch.

As for Shaq, his debut in Phoenix was a little bit better than Kidd's.

Shaq's first game as a Suns resulted in a 15 point and nine rebound effort, in 29 minutes of action.

Phoenix still lost the game, and gave up 41 points to Kobe Bryant. Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol also combined for 51 points.

The Lakers also showed that they are scary good, and look like the team to beat out west right now.

Not bad for a debut for both guys—but can they get their teams over the hump come spring?
