WWE Royal Rumble 2012: Why the Miz Will Suffer Biggest Letdown of His Career

The Miz is currently in an interesting situation. 2011 was a solid year for him, as he got a strong push.

Miz headlined WrestleMania against John Cena and was able to retain his WWE Championship. He then was put in the center of one of the most interesting storylines in a while, the "conspiracy." That storyline is still left open and questions need to be answered. However, the team of "Awesome Truth" had serious momentum and were causing chaos among the WWE Universe.

That all stopped when John Cena and the Rock defeated them at Survivor Series and when R-Truth was suspended. Miz was left with no real direction and still doesn't have one. His rise to the top of the company was stunted, and he now faces possibly the biggest letdown of his career.

The Miz could be considered the best heel on Raw's roster right now. CM Punk could be considered the best face. A meeting at WrestleMania for the WWE Championship between Punk and Miz would be interesting and could turn into a solid match that night. There has been speculation that Chris Jericho or even Triple H could face Punk at WrestleMania. However, both Punk and Miz are good on the mic, so the verbal wars would be intriguing.

One way for this match to happen would be Miz winning the Royal Rumble and challenging Punk.

On Raw, John Laurinaitis declared that the loser of the match between Miz and R-Truth would be the first entrant in the Royal Rumble. Miz lost the match and is now the first person to enter this years Royal Rumble.

There are only two ways that the Miz can avoid experiencing a letdown and lose even more momentum at the Royal Rumble. He could be dominant and eliminate somewhere around five to eight people, or he could last a long time and even possibly win the Royal Rumble.

The Miz is not really a dominating wrestler who can clean a ring full of superstars so that scenario is not likely. He could find a way to sneak out of the ring and methodically eliminate wrestlers throughout the match.

The chances of him winning the Rumble at the first entrant are extremely low. There have only been two wrestlers who have entered as the first participant and won the match. Not to mention, for the first time in the history of the match, every WWE superstar is eligible to compete in the Royal Rumble match.

If the Miz is not impressive in this year's Royal Rumble, he could wind up falling down to the mid-card. He could go from headlining and winning the main event at WrestleMania 27 to playing a meaningless role in WrestleMania 28. The Royal Rumble could set the Miz back to where he was a few years ago in the company, and he could very well suffer the biggest letdown of his career.
