Memphis Grizzlies vs. Los Angeles Clippers: ABA Throwbacks Revealed in Primetime

Josh MartinJan 26, 2012

As if so much of the basketball played thus far during the lockout-shortened NBA season weren't nauseating enough, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Memphis Grizzlies had to sting our eyes and churn our stomachs with their ABA tribute uniforms.

Throwback? No, more like throw up.

The Clippers were "kind" enough to don these two-toned, baby blue and red threads in honor of the Los Angeles Stars:

Yes, those same LA Stars who began as the Anaheim Amigos before moving to Utah in 1970. At least the Clips finally have some stars on their team worthy of the moniker, thanks to the emergence of Blake Griffin, the signings of Chauncey Billups and Caron Butler and, of course, the league-engineered trade for Chris Paul.

As for the Grizz, they're paying homage to the Memphis Tams, though they look more like a bunch of dudes running in a rec league:

And, without Zach Randolph, they just so happen to be playing like them, too.

I guess that's the sign of making it to the elite in the NBA.

No, not having your games broadcast on TNT in prime time, though that doesn't hurt. I'm talking about parading around in dreadful duds.

You know, the sort that make you wonder who let Stevie Wonder into the locker rooms at the Staples Center to dress the players.

Rumor has it, the players will hand their jerseys off to the Brazilian and Argentinian national teams at halftime.

In the meantime, might I recommend you follow this game on radio? Last I checked, throwback unis are easier on the ears.
