Giants vs. Patriots: Why Super Bowl XLVI Will Reaffirm Bill Belichick's Genius

Ryan PhillipsJun 7, 2018

For a long time now New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has been regarded as one of the best to ever patrol the sidelines in the NFL. But the three-time AP NFL Coach of the Year hasn't guided his team to a Super Bowl title since 2004, and this year was the Pats' first AFC title since 2007. Since then, some have wondered if the man in the grey hoodie had lost his touch.

Now Belichick has led New England back to the Super Bowl after a wildly successful 13-3 regular season. Just by the fact that he has led the Patriots back to within one win of another title, Belichick has clearly established that he can still coach with the best of them.

In the Super Bowl, Belichick's job will be to figure out a way to stop the New York Giants and their potent passing attack. Giants quarterback Eli Manning has three very good receivers at his disposal, with Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham.

New England's defense struggled against the pass this season, allowing 293.9 yards per game. Belichick and his staff need to put together a way to at least hold Manning and his receivers in check, and allow Tom Brady and the Patriots' potent offense to shine.

If the Giants have a chance late in the game, you have to like their chances because of how well they have played in the clutch this season.

If Belichick can secure his fourth championship with the Patriots he will re-enter the discussion as one of the greatest head coaches in NFL history.

I think the Patriots will win Super Bowl XLVI, and while I expect it to be an excellent game, I think Belichick will reaffirm his genius by the end of the night.
