Eric Gordon Injury: Hornets Star Could Miss 6 Weeks with Knee Injury

Gabe ZaldivarJan 26, 2012

The messy business of the New Orleans Hornets and their star guard Eric Gordon gets even messier, as he has suffered a knee injury that may keep him out the next six weeks.

John Reid, a Times-Picayune reporter tweeted that Gordon will need six weeks to recover from his recent knee injury.

The Hornets may want to see if they can ask for a refund on the trade that sent Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers and Eric Gordon, among other pieces, to New Orleans.

The guard has missed most of the season already with a bruised right knee, and now it seems to be far worse than previously thought.

You can sense that in the tweet from New Orleans sports and CBS reporter Larry Holder.

What It Means

The deal that David Stern thought was just peaches for the Hornets continues to get worse and worse. There is no telling how this injury will affect the franchise long-term.

An Associated Press report stated Gordon had rejected an extension with the team, and is seems likely they will now lose Gordon for the next six weeks, in addition to losing him this offseason.

What's Next?

The quick answer to the question of what lies ahead is: nothing good. Gordon has only played in two games this season, and the Hornets will surely be in the basement when he returns over a month from now.

More than that, his failing to sign an extension means the Hornets will indeed see a guard walk this summer. Instead of Paul deserting them for free agency, it will be Gordon.

This SportingNews report rumors the Indiana Pacers are very keen on taking Gordon in the summer. The faltering New Orleans Hornets are getting pummeled at the moment, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.
