Joe Paterno: Legend's Legacy Honored with Video Tribute at Memorial Service
Today is not a day to second-guess what Joe Paterno should have done nearly a decade ago. Today is a day for those who knew JoePa best to honor his memory.
Paterno's memorial service is being held on Thursday in State College. Thousands of people filed into Penn State's basketball arena to behold it, among them being JoePa's family, former players, coaches and anyone and everyone who shared a relationship with the school's longtime head football coach.
The service featured a video tribute to JoePa, one that will tug at the heartstrings of anybody who ventures to watch it. If you missed it, the clip is embedded above.
The video is essentially a highlight reel of the good old days, when Paterno was the recipient of unconditional love from everyone in and around Happy Valley. All the iconic images are there, from Paterno's trademark khakis and glasses to him leading the Nittany Lions out on the field to him smiling and waving at adoring fans.
This is about as sentimental as it gets, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
We're likely never going to stop questioning what kind of role JoePa did or didn't play in the Jerry Sandusky scandal. At the same time, nobody should be too quick to forget what Joe Paterno meant to Penn State before and even after the scandal came to light.
Because of the great things he did for the football team and for the university, he is and always will be a legend.
May he rest in peace.
