Wes Welker: Patriots WR's Engagement Sets Stage for Epic Super Bowl Performance

New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker is hoping to get a ring on Feb. 5 against the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI, so he wanted to make sure his girlfriend-turned-fiancée, Anna Burns, did not feel left out.

According to the Boston Herald, Welker surprised Burns with a ring for Christmas even though she said she wanted a Cartier love bracelet. Apparently she is expecting Welker to get a big contract this offseason, because she is not exactly going cheap with the jewelry.

This is a great time for Welker, and he will surely capitalize on this moment by dominating the soft Giants secondary in the biggest game of the year.  

Welker has actually taken a backseat in recent weeks to Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. He has not had a 100-yard game since Christmas Eve, which could be a sign the engagement has taken a toll on him psychologically and professionally. 

Of course, it could just be that Tom Brady spreads the ball around as well as any quarterback and opposing defenses have geared up to stop Welker, but where is the fun in that?

Now that Welker has the proposal taken care of and it has been made public, the only thing he has to worry about is the way he performs on the field. 

The Giants were burned last week by San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis for two long touchdown catches and have struggled to defend the pass all year long. 

Welker is Brady's safety net. He is going to be the go-to-receiver in this game because he has the ability to create plays when it looks like there is no hope. 

Burns will be there to support him, and he wants to do everything he possibly can to make sure she isn't the only one in the family wearing a nice piece of jewelry for the rest of their lives together. 

It has been a long time since we have seen Welker dominate, so what better time for him to turn things around than against the Giants with his fiancée watching?
