LSU Recruiting: Will the Tigers Land Jordan Jefferson's Younger Brother in 2013?

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

The LSU Tigers will no longer have Jordan Jefferson as their starting quarterback, as he was a senior last season, but in year 2013, they may get his brother.

His name is Rickey Jefferson and he plays the wide receiver position for Destrehan High School in Destrehan, Louisiana. Now while this may still be a year away and we may be more focused on the recruits we can land this year, it's never too early to get a jump on these prospects.

As of right now, LSU is the only school to have extended an offer, but he's also interested in other schools like Alabama, Florida State and Oregon.

"

I've been liking LSU and Alabama for a long time. I like the feel at Alabama. Their fans are cool and the stadium is nice. I've been over there three times. I like Coach (Nick) Saban and Coach (Les) Miles at LSU. They're my two favorite coaches but they're very different.

"

While he is interested in other schools, LSU does have the advantage of landing him. After all, his brother did play for the program for four seasons so he has to be comfortable with the program.

"I was invited to Junior Days at LSU and Alabama. I didn't go to LSU's but I wanted to go. The only reason I didn't go was transportation. I like LSU and already know everything about their program after being around it for six years."

This may still be a year away, but the Tigers could really use depth at the wide receiver position. Especially one that is as good with the ball in their hands as Jefferson is. He has solid hands and he's able to create plays when he gets in the open field.

He has good speed and picks up huge chunks of yards after the catch. He's rated a 4-star player by most top recruiting sites.

"

Playing at LSU would be my dream, especially with Jordan there. But he won't be there when I get to college. I like a lot schools and want to explore what's out there. I would love to play in the SEC. I like Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Auburn. I also like the Florida schools. I would love to camp at Alabama this summer.

"

While the Tigers may have the advantage of picking up Jordan Jefferson's brother, the BCS National Championship didn't quite sit well with Jefferson.

"As a football recruit who is being recruited by LSU, I see how fans act. People shouldn't read too much into it - that I didn't go to LSU's Junior Day - but I was a little bothered by things that happened. How do the fans think the players feel after losing? It was killing the players."

Will LSU be able to pick up another Jefferson to likely lead their team for another four years? It's extremely possible. While we are very early in the process, I'd say they are the front-runners to land him.

While you can never count out Nick Saban and company, being comfortable with a program is a huge advantage the Tigers have over everyone else.

It'll be interesting to see how this one plays out.
