Michigan Football Recruiting: Underrated Sam Grant Would Be Terrific Addition

Tim DanielsJun 4, 2018

Michigan should be doing everything within its power to secure the commitment of tight end Sam Grant, who would be a perfect fit for in Wolverines' pro-style offense.

Bob Przybylo of ESPN reports Grant, who recently decommitted from Boston College, will be making a decision between Michigan and Oklahoma soon.

"

Three-star tight end Sam Grant (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Edward) isn’t ready to make his announcement, but he said he hopes to make his decision later this week. Grant was visited at his school by OU coaches Bob Stoops, Bruce Kittle and Cale Gundy on Tuesday afternoon.

“Yes, Coach Stoops, Kittle and Gundy were up to see me,” Grant text messaged SoonerNation. “Had a great visit with them and am looking to make a decision later this week.”

Grant previously visited Michigan in December. He's a high school teammate of highly-touted Michigan commit Kyle Kalis, which should give the Wolverines an advantage in the decision-making process.

The thing that immediately stands out about Grant is his size. He's listed at 6'6'', 240 pounds, which means he's already more than capable of playing in the Big Ten, and he should continue to grow in the next few years.

Blocking along the offensive line is vital for Michigan while Denard Robinson remains under center. Grant would join a very solid group of linemen that have committed to Michigan, providing an immediate boost to the offense.

He has also flashed good hands. Providing the dynamic Robinson with more weapons in the passing game, especially those willing to do the dirty work over the middle, would add some much-needed balance to the Michigan offense.

For prospects like Grant that have a seemingly endless amount of untapped potential, sometimes it's a good idea to just throw the rating out the window. As of right now, he's only a 3-star prospect, but put into the right situation at Michigan, he will greatly exceed that rating.

Receiving a commitment from Grant wouldn't make waves nationally and he wouldn't be one of the most discussed players when the Wolverines introduce the new class. But he's the type of player every team needs to help build its foundation.

That's why Brady Hoke and his coaching staff should be making a strong push to convince him Michigan is the place to be before he makes his final decision in the coming days.
