National Signing Day 2012: The 10 Biggest Questions Heading into Signing Day

Edwin WeathersbyJun 7, 2018

There are questions heading into National Signing Day, folks, many of them. But for this, I'm going to give the 10 that I think are the most critical and interesting. Everyone has questions and we all need answers.

That's just a fact.

I urge you to send me your answers and thoughts to each question. It'll be fun.

Without further wait, here are the 10 biggest questions heading into National Signing Day 2012.

10. Who Will Have the Most Creative Way to Announce Their Choice?

1 of 10

With Mario Edwards announcing his re-commitment to Florida State via Twitter, you know someone is going to do something crazy next week.

We've seen puppies pulled out, hats, T-shirts, ties and more. Which prospect is going to be the most creative and most innovative in announcing their choice?

9. How Far Can Ohio State Surge Up the Rankings?

2 of 10

As it stands right now, the Buckeyes will be anywhere between No. 6 and No. 10 in the rankings. Can they climb up even more? I'm not sure, as it looks like the last top-tier prospect for them on the board is Demetrious Cox.

But we'll see next Wednesday.

8. What Will Penn State's Class Look Like?

3 of 10

This is not the best of times in Happy Valley right now, for several obvious reasons. However, Bill O'Brien still is working the phones from Boston while figuring out how to attack the Giants' defense.

Just seeing the class that Penn State officially signs next Wednesday is going to be very interesting.

7. Who Will Decommit and Switch?

4 of 10

Every NSD we get a couple shockers, and not just announcements, but in recruits decommitting at the last minute and switching to other schools. It'll happen again this year, and it's a big question as to who will be this year's participants.

6. Where Will Notre Dame Land?

5 of 10

The Irish are the darlings of many around the nation, so the attention will be on them hot on NSD. Where will they land in the rankings?

I think they have a very good shot of finishing in the top 10 and maybe deep into the elite classes if they close out right.

Which leads me to my next question...

5. Who Will Close the Best?

6 of 10

This is what I call "Bobby Bowden" time in the recruiting cycle. This time is all about closing out on recruits. Home visits are being made and coaches get to go into a prospect's home and sell him and his family on their program.

Which program's staff will handle this time the best and close out in a flash by the end of next Wednesday?

4. What Will Happen to Cal?

7 of 10

Cal was on pace for a top 10 finish, but now things aren't as poppin' in Berkley as they were a few weeks ago. DL coach and ace recruiter Tosh Lupoi has bolted to Seattle for Washington and many of Cal's big-name prospects are looking around.

They've already lost 5-star DT Ellis McCarthy to UCLA; could more follow the road away from Berkley? What happens with Arik Armstead?

3. Who Will Delay Their Decision?

8 of 10

Last year, we saw Jadeveon Clowney delay his decision until around Valentine's Day, and we also saw Cyrus Kounandjio take extra time to make his choice after committing to Auburn.

This year, Stefon Diggs will take his time and wait until after NSD. Which recruits will also delay their choice?

2. Where Will Dorial Green-Beckham Sign?

9 of 10

Viewed as the near-consensus top player in the country, Green-Beckham is down to a top five of Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and Alabama.

He's a 6'6", 220-pound WR that is a cross between Calvin Johnson and Andre Johnson. He's been very sly about letting people know what he's thinking, so seeing where ends up is a major draw to NSD.

1. Who Will Have the No. 1 Class?

10 of 10

It's the top question every signing day, isn't it? Who has the No.1 incoming recruiting class in the country?

Teams in contention for the honor this year include Alabama, Texas, Florida State, Florida and Michigan. Who do you think finishes next Wednesday No. 1 in the country for 2012 recruiting.
