Holy Upsets
As we ring in the New Year and I try and recover from my New Year’s Eve, I am not the only one who had a hangover. Yesterday, the best basketball teams in the country, from the NBA and college, were upset.
What is surprising to me is that not only were they beat, but beaten by very bad teams and all on the same day.
- The Boston Celtics lost to the lowly New York Knicks who had a record of 12-19 going into the game.
- The Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the Wizards who had a record of 6-25 going into the game.
- UNC Tarheels lost at home to the Eagles of Boston College who were unranked.
Of all the losses, the UNC game was the most surprising to me. I seriously thought they were going to run the table this year. The talent that is on that team, along with an excellent coach, made them a great candidate for a perfect season.
It goes to remind us on how exciting and amazing basketball is as a sport. Teams can lose at any point and it comes down to who executes their game plan the best. While watching the game, UNC looked out of sync and out of rhythm, and forced shots they do not normally take, while BC made play after play.
I did not get a chance to see the other two upsets. Check out the highlights here:
Wizards vs. Cavs
Celtics vs. Knicks
