Tampa Bay Buccaneer Goat Rodeo: Can the Glazers Make a New Splash Hire?

Say what you want but the Tampa Bay Buccaneer pot would be stirring had Chip Kelly not come to his senses on Sunday.

There would have been a real buzz, of some sort. It was a typical Glazer splash and they do have this way of making a splash.

You may or may not recall the last time they swung and missed it was Steve Mariucci. The Mooch basically did what Chip Kelly did and just when things were looking dismal, the Glazers come up with none other than Chucky: Jon Gruden.

Which brings us back to this current Goat Rodeo and you keep hearing the name Mike Sherman.

Humbug.

There is simply no way on God's green earth that the Glazers can follow up on Chip Kelly with Mike Sherman. No way.

Did we say no way?

Say it one more time, all together now: Mike Sherman—NO WAY!!!!!

Sherman would be the anti-splash hire. Announce Sherman as the next Buccaneer coach and all you would hear would be the sound of crickets chirping.

Now it's time to think outside the box and we've got a guy for you.

How about Auburn coach Gene Chizik?

He knows what a quarterback looks like and that would be Cam Newton.

He knows what a defense looks like. And here's where we connect the dots.

When Chizik was at the University of Central Florida, he spent a lot of time with Tony Dungy, Monte Kiffin and then Buccaneer linebackers coach Lovie Smith. A simply magnificent group to teach you the finer points of defense played at its best.

Talk about learning from the best?

He has one more national championship than Chip Kelly.

Let's add this while we're at it—Gene Chizik is a Tampa Bay guy!

Chizik would bring a great understanding of what is needed on both sides of the football. You look at the best SEC teams and they play defense a lot better than this current Buccaneer team can imagine.

You want a surprise, you want a splash, something like this would have "Glazer Grab" written all over it.

And all you've got written on Mike Sherman is "loser."
