A Look at Marlon Lucky, Nate Swift, and Joe Ganz's Draft Prospects
From: Big Herbie
I don’t claim to be a draft expert, but I do think I have an idea what NFL teams look for in collegiate athletes in the next level.
Obviously, HuskersGameday can’t be privy to information on a player for heart, smarts, injuries, and character.
So it’s with that disclaimer that we will take a look into the 2008 Nebraska Cornhuskers individual draft prospects.
This guy came in with a mountain of expectations and ended up having a pretty solid career. I always thought his game was suited for the NFL because:
Skill Set
Marlon most likely won’t be a full-time or primary running back because running isn’t his strong suit. His strengths are his pass-catching ability and pass-blocking. Those are two highly sought-after skills that when lacking can prevent a young NFL running back from getting on the field.
Injuries
Yeah, he’s gotten banged up, but you can come back from his types of injuries. When healthy, he’s an effective back.
Offensive System
Say what you want about Callahan, he installed a pro-style offense that will give Marlon Lucky a leg up on other rookies.
Marlon figures to go on Day Two of the NFL Draft. My guess is Marlon will be on and contributing to an NFL team in 2009.
Wes Welker Part II? The Great White Hope? My guess is Nate Swift will have a great combine and workouts and make himself a third round pick. Nate Swift is listed at 6'2", 200 lbs., but he plays much stronger. His punt returning talents may give him an additional leg up.
Joe Ganz
Will most likely be an Undrafted Free Agent, but that should work to his advantage. He can find the perfect fit and give the NFL his best shot. Given his smarts and toughness, you should not count him out.
