Royal Rumble 2012: The Rock and 5 Surprise Stars Who Would Wow Audiences

Brian MaziqueJun 4, 2018

The Rock will always cause a stir with any appearance. Whether it's a house show, Smackdown, Raw and of course the Royal Rumble. The moment "The Rock Says" plays on the PA system, the roof will come off the Scottrade Center.

It is feasible The Rock could be in St. Louis for the Rumble. His new movie Journey 2: The Mysterious Island opens on Feb. 10, less than two weeks after the Rumble.

It would be great promotion, though I think his involvement would be more likely as a out-of-ring participant over an actual entry in The Rumble.

Here are four other superstars that could turn St. Louis out with an appearance:

Brock Lesnar

File this under probably not, but what if it did happen? Lesnar was beaten out of the UFC by Alistair Overeem and I've long said, the WWE is the best fit for him now. Imagine if he and the Undertaker are in the Rumble. Remember this exchange after Cain Velasquez demolished Brock Lesnar:

Could the WWE parlay this into an in-ring feud, based on something that happens in the Rumble. One of them wins, but it leads to a Triple Threat Match for the title at WrestleMania with CM Punk. That would be exciting, but also extremely unlikely.

Probability:

2 out of 10

Goldust

The WWE has been hinting at this as a possible brother vs. brother matchup with Cody Rhodes. Goldust is Dustin Rhodes, both of them are the son of legend Dusty Rhodes, and the mini-face off in the Rumble would be a nice mid-level pop moment.

It could also gauge the interest in a more long-standing feud.

6 out of 10

Mick Foley

Appearing on Raw and campaigning for a spot doesn't hurt his chances, but it could have been used as a way to measure fan's response. If the WWE believes Foley can garner a big enough pop, they might just plug him in.

He certainly wouldn't be much of a factor, as that would call for fans to see him more regularly and that isn't realistic, as he is a comedian and writer, first and foremost these days. Just showing up should be good enough for him and the fans.

Probability 7 out of 10

The Undertaker

The last time WWE fans saw the Undertaker, he was on a stretcher after his win over Triple H at WrestleMania in 2011. A win at the Royal Rumble guarantees a spot in the main event for WrestleMania. Taker of course, has his 19-0 record there.

At this point in his career, he's like an aging tennis star who only plays the majors. The Royal Rumble and subsequent WrestleMania berth would certainly qualify. I think he has the best chance of anyone to appear as a participant and winner in the Royal Rumble.
