WWE: Can The Usos Seize the Day & Become the Top Tag Team in WWE?

Drake OzJun 7, 2018

The WWE’s tag team division is in absolute shambles.

Well, I guess something technically has to exist to be in shambles, and the WWE’s tag division basically doesn’t.

After the suspension of Evan Bourne and the at least temporary breakup of Air Boom, the company now has just two legitimate tag teams: The Usos (Jimmy and Jey) and Epico & Primo. Sorry, Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks, but NXT doesn’t really count.

Epico and Primo are now holding the WWE Tag Team Championship, and at least for the time being, the only legitimate threat to their title reign is the Usos.

I’ve always liked the Usos, I think they have a sick ring entrance, and I’ve maintained that—given the fact that they’re twin brothers—they’re the most legitimate tag team in the WWE.

They’ve improved drastically over the last few years, and in my ideal world, they would be the focal point of the WWE’s tag team division for years, much like the Hardy Boyz and Edge & Christian were during the Attitude Era.

The Usos have everything that it takes to step up in Air Boom’s absence and overtake Epico and Primo as the WWE’s top tag team, but unfortunately, I just don’t think that’s going to happen.

As we saw on last week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Epico and Primo are the new top dogs in the tag division, and the Usos are there simply to make them look good. Jimmy and Jey were fed to Epico and Primo last week, having a competitive match but never really having a chance to win it.

It’s like seeing the same story over and over again.

Every time the WWE needs a new tag team to step up, the creative team completely overlooks the Usos. Instead of using the Usos as challengers or champions, creative uses them to put other tag teams over.

I honestly don’t get it, but it’s come to be expected.

Rather than giving the Usos a chance to seize the day and become the WWE’s top tag team, company officials are likely going to pair two random guys together and give them that opportunity instead.

From the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via WrestleNewz.com):

"

Look for WWE to come up with a new babyface tag team to challenge Primo and Epico for the Tag Team Titles. WWE had plans in place for Primo & Epico’s tag team title run but Evan Bourne’s most recent suspension sped things up.

"

Why create a new tag team when you’ve already got a perfect one lined up for you in the Usos? Because it makes too much sense, I guess.

The WWE will probably move forward with pairing two random baby faces together, giving them some stupid name and then pushing them as the top baby face tag team in all of the WWE.

We saw Kofi Kingston team up with Mason Ryan (Ugh) at a live event this past week, and it certainly appears as if the creative team has started experimenting with creating new tag teams to fill the void left by Air Boom’s absence.

I’m all for the WWE creating as many new tag teams as possible—it certainly could use another five or six, as long as they make sense—but not if it comes at the expense of the Usos.

Creating some new tag team that may or may not gel when you’ve already got a perfect one within the company would be like going to the store to buy eggs when you’ve already got enough in the refrigerator.

Wouldn’t make sense, right?

The WWE should use that logic, but instead of using the eggs it has to cook breakfast, the creative team will probably go buy some eggs that are already cracked.
