Florida State Football Recruiting: Mario Edwards Confirms He's Noles All the Way

Randy ChambersJan 24, 2012

For the last couple of seasons we've been wondering when the Florida State Seminoles would be "back" and climb their way to the top of the college football ladder. They're getting closer and closer, as they've put together a combined 19-8 record the last two seasons and two bowl victories under head coach Jimbo Fisher.

But at Florida State, they expect BCS bowl games, ACC titles and, of course, national championships.

Defensive end Mario Edwards is willing to be a part of that run as he has said he will suit up in a Florida State uniform during his college days.

"After getting home (from LSU) and talking it over with my family I (decided) am sticking with Florida State, and that's where I'm headed," said Edwards. "That is my final decision."

In a recruiting class that is loaded with talented defensive ends, Edwards is often the highest rated out of all of them. He's extremely strong at 6'4", 291 pounds and has a whole arsenal of moves and techniques to put on the offensive linemen. He makes tons of plays in the backfield and will give opposing quarterbacks in the ACC nightmares when they have to play against him.

Edwards originally committed to Florida State back in March of 2011 but backed out and wanted to further explore his options before making the decision official.

"At FSU, he's developed relationships with not only the linemen, but the receivers, linebackers, and the offensive linemen," Mario Edwards Sr. said (Edwards father)

Florida State already had an extremely talented recruiting class this year, and this commitment makes it that much better. Edwards is the type of player who can make an immediate impact on the team.

"The reason I picked FSU is the feeling I have while I'm there and because they have back-to-back (recruiting) classes that are top of the nation and I want to be a part of that," said Edwards.

Edwards' commitment has really played a factor in their class ranking, and it could get even better. Players like Eddie Goldman, Tracy Howard and A.J. Leggett are still highly considering taking the same path as Edwards.

Something tells me this team will accomplish their goals real soon.
