Michigan Football Recruiting: Josh Garnett Would Make Michigan True Power
Michigan lost out on a great talent in Caleb Stacey but can still pull off one of the best in class offensive lines by landing Josh Garnett.
Stacey was all set to improve the lot on the offensive line in Ann Arbor. That is when the pull of home became too great and he decided to matriculate to Cincinnati.
Cincinnati Oak Hills' coach Kyle Ralph explained the situation. "When it came down to it, Caleb just wanted to stay closer to home. He's a Cincinnati kid, and as it came down to it, he was more comfortable staying home in Cincinnati," he told the Detroit Free Press
As Tim Sullivan of the Free Press reports, Michigan's offensive line class is still tops in the nation. They have nabbed, "commitments from a five-star prospect, Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward tackle Kyle Kalis; a three-star prospect, Rockford (Mich.) offensive tackle Ben Braden; and a pair of four-stars in Carlsbad (Calif.) La Costa Canyon tackle Erik Magnuson and Nashville (Tenn.) Montgomery Bell Academy guard Blake Bars."
They all pale in comparison to guard Garnett. The Puyallup High School star guard is a 4-star recruit and ranked as No. 2 at his position.
Dave Miller of The National Football Post reports Thursday as D-Day for Garnett, who is said to be picking between Stanford and Michigan. Notre Dame has apparently been axed from the list, according to the report.
The Cardinal may be favorites, but Miller states Michigan has closed the gap after Brady Hoke sat down with Garnett's family.
That should illustrate how Garnett would improve the offensive line from solid to sublime. Michigan may be able to live without his talent, but they would flourish with it.
Garnett has added even more bulk in the last couple of months and is looking hungry to make his mark at the next level.
That kind of monster on the line would create a wealth of comfort for the passing game as well as gaping holes for the ground attack. We will see on Thursday if the Wolverines will simply good or remarkable next season.
