NBA Rumors: Knicks Foolish to Consider Trading Amar'e Stoudemire Right Now
The New York Knicks can't seem to get things right. It would be foolish for them to panic though, especially when it comes to Amar'e Stoudemire, and ultimately they have to exercise some patience.
We've heard different rumors all season long, and one such rumor today brings up a very intriguing option.
Stephen "Screamin' " A. Smith offered this potential trade rumor to the New York radio listeners (via ESPNRadio.com):
"As I told you a little bit earlier in the hour, I have some news to report about your New York Knicks and here it is. The Orlando Magic, I will preface my statement by telling you that they have categorically denied this, but my sources tell me that they have inquired about Tyson Chandler and Amar'e Stoudemire going to Orlando for Dwight Howard. Let me confess to you that I'm torn. From a basketball standpoint, it would seem you do that deal in a heartbeat. You don't teach seven-feet and you don't teach the dominance and the skills that the best big man in the game, Dwight Howard, has. But I like Tyson Chandler. I like the fact that he rebounds and defends...
"
It certainly is an enticing possibility, but the Knicks have to wait and see what happens and why they actually put a real point guard on the court.
Carmelo Anthony has publicly acknowledged that things between him and STAT need to get better. He needs to get him the ball more, Carmello even said he may be trying to do too much.
Carmelo is always going to need his touches, but taking him off the ball when Baron Davis comes back is going to open things up considerably.
Davis made his practice debut today and is "close" to returning - hopefully debuting Saturday.
With Davis running the point, the Knicks are going to look different. He's not going to change the entire culture of this team, but he's by far—assuming he is healthy and in shape— the best point guard option for this team.
The Knicks have to be patient and see what they do as a completely healthy team before considering any trade offers for one of their big three players.
Potentially landing Dwight Howard is something that will get anyone's attention, but the Knicks have a ton of talent on their current roster as it is.
They need to wait, at least, to see what they can do with a real point guard on the court. If that doesn't work, then they can consider moving someone.
