Australian Open 2012: Power Ranking Potential Semifinal Matches
While the quarterfinals of the Australian Open aren't set yet, it's not too early to look ahead to the semis.
That's where some really juicy matchups await.
Is juicy the right word? Probably not, but here's a look at the best matchups that await us.
Tomas Berdych vs. Roger Federer
Berdych would have to knock off Rafael Nadal to get to this match. He's had a little bit of success against Rafa in his career, so it's not unfathomable that he pulls the upset.
If he does, he'll likely match up against No. 3, Roger Federer, and that presents quite the battle.
Berdych has the type of hard-hitting game that could eventually give Federer problems, But Federer has been back to his usual self in the last few months.
This would be very intriguing.
The Djoker looks absolutely unstoppable right now. But a semifinal match with No. 4 Andy Murray would at least slow him down.
If someone is going to upset Djokovic before the finals, it would be Murray—who has made it to the Australian finals the past two years.
This would be a rematch of last year's Australian final, a match in which Djokovic won in straight sets. Murray would be seeking revenge, although it will tough to achieve.
Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal
Is there really any explanation needed for this one? Will all due respect to Djokovic and his amazing year, Federer and Nadal still have the best rivalry and they are both just one win away from a matchup.
This is clearly the upside to neither of them being ranked No. 1, as we have the wait a few less days to see them go up against each other.
It's like we get to watch two finals in one tournament. Yes please.
