Andy Roddick: Power Ranking the Americans' Chances at Remaining Grand Slams

Tim KeeneyJun 7, 2018

Well, at least Andy Roddick got some extra time to vacation in Australia. After looking fairly atrocious against Lleyton Hewitt in the second round, Roddick retired due to a hamstring injury.

The early exit isn't all that surprising, especially after Roddick struggled the last two years in the Grand Slam events.

Is there any chance he can make a run at the remaining tourneys?

Well, not much.

Maybe When Pigs Fly: French Open

In his career, Roddick is just 9-9 at the French Open, easily his worst of the Grand Slams. His best finish was in 2009, when he made it to the fourth round.

If Roddick somehow miraculously managed to get past Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, he would have Mr. Rafael Nadal waiting for him.

Nadal is 45-1 at the French Open.

Good luck.

Where He's Been Best Lately: Wimbledon

Roddick made it to the Wimbledon finals back in 2009, and he's been solid there despite falling in the third round last year.

His serve last year set records, and he could potentially surprise a few opponents.

The chances are low, but crazier things have happened.

Home Sweet Home: US Open

Sure, it was back in 2003, but the US Open is where Roddick won his first and only Grand Slam title, and it's where he is most comfortable.

Nonetheless, the quarters appear to be his ceiling, as that is where he's been eliminated in three of the past five tournaments.

If Roddick is going to win a Grand Slam, he's going to need a whole lot of things to fall in his favor, and a magical run would seemingly have to be fueled by a home crowd. The US Open is clearly where that could happen.
