WWE News: Injury Updates on Mark Henry and Big Show Heading into Royal Rumble

Drake OzJan 23, 2012

You know what the WWE really can’t afford at the moment? Another injury.

The company has been hit hard by the injury bug over the last several months and is already without a number of its top stars, from Randy Orton to Rey Mysterio to Christian to Alberto Del Rio.

Unfortunately, two SmackDown main-eventers aren’t 100 percent either, and they just so happen to be competing in the World Heavyweight Championship match at Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

Don’t worry, though, because we’ve got the latest update on their injury status and health going into the PPV.

"

After tweaking his back at last Tuesday’s SmackDown tapings, Big Show appears to be fine as he worked this weekend’s live events against Daniel Bryan.

Mark Henry was advertised for triple threats against Bryan and Show but did not appear due to a groin injury.

"

While it looks like Big Show is almost fully healthy, it appears that Henry may have suffered yet another setback from a groin injury that’s hampered him for more than a month now.

It was that injury that led to Henry dropping the World Heavyweight Championship, and unfortunately for him, it looks like it’s still bothering him at least somewhat. It’s obviously not an ideal time for Henry to be hurting because he’s got a high-profile match at Sunday’s pay-per-view, but there’s no doubt that the WWE will find ways to work around it.

I’d expect Henry to be rather limited in what he does in the ring at the Royal Rumble, which is probably one of the reasons why the match was made a Triple Threat and will take place in a steel cage in the first place.

Those two stipulations should allow Henry to “take it easy” in the World Heavyweight title bout, while Big Show and Daniel Bryan work a majority of the match.

That’s OK, though, because we all know that Bryan is one of the few wrestlers around who can carry not one, but two big men to an enjoyable match, and I’d expect him to do just that on Sunday.

It looks like Henry might slowly be turning baby face, too, so don’t be surprised to see Bryan take him out in cheap fashion early on in order to accelerate Henry’s apparent face turn.
