Arsenal vs Manchester United: Gunners Must Buy in Transfer Window to Save Season

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger must buy world-class talent during the final days of this month's transfer window or the club will not finish in the top four of the Premier League and miss out on Champions League football next season.

The consequences of missing the Champions League next season are massive. Very few stars, if any, will want to come to the Emirates during the summer transfer window if the Gunners won't be playing in the Champions League next season.

Also, current Arsenal stars such as Robin van Persie will strongly reconsider their future with the club if there is no European football next season.

Sure, the club is only five points behind Chelsea for the fourth and final Champions League spot from the Premier League, but Arsenal has taken only three of 18 possible points this season against Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham.

Wenger must bring in quality players during the current transfer window to help the club score more goals so they can avoid dropping points to the top clubs and the lower-tier sides.

Van Persie has scored 19 league goals this season, but no one else has scored more than four times for Arsenal this season. Way too often is the Dutch star relied on to carry the scoring burden of the club, and that's way too much for one guy to be responsible for, even someone as good as Van Persie.

Arsenal has not scored more than three two goals in a match in any competition since a Dec. 3 domination of Wigan Athletic.

The Gunners don't have the attacking talent needed to beat top sides. When your club cannot score or defend well consistently, you have a recipe for disappointing results.

Wenger needs to buy a quality striker and a top-tier left or right back if Arsenal are to finish in the top four this season.

Buying great players in this month's transfer window might mean overpaying for talent, but it's worth it when Champions League football for next season is on the line.
