Ohio State Football Recruiting: 5-Star DE Prospects Signal Dynasty for Buckeyes

Patrick ClarkeJun 7, 2018

It will not be long before legendary college football coach and former ESPN analyst Urban Meyer turns the Ohio State football program into a dynasty.

The Buckeyes have landed one of the top recruiting classes in 2012 already, including two stars on the defensive line. Columbus will welcome both Noah Spence and Adolphus Washington next season, both 5-star prospects ranked in the Top 25 nationally.

Spence has been touted as the best defensive end in the country and the best high school football player in the state of Pennsylvania, high honors to say the least. On top of that though, Spence boasts a 3.5 GPA, which means Ohio State is rebuilding with high-character talent as well.

Spence brings a little more size to the table than Washington, however. At 6'4", 230 pounds, Washington will have to bulk up in the spring and throughout his time in Columbus in order to become a premier NFL draft prospect in the future.

Still, the presence of Meyer at Ohio State virtually guarantees that these two high-school ballers will become consistent college forces. Meyer has built dynasties everywhere he has been.

He went 17-6 in two seasons at Bowling Green. Then 22-2 in two seasons with Utah. Meyer finished 65-15 with two BCS National Championships in six seasons at Florida. The Toledo native sports a career head-coaching record of 104-23.

Both Washington and Spence will be given the space to evolve and dominate under Meyer and former NFL linebacker and defensive line coach Mike Vrabel. Vrabel recruited Spence, who committed in mid-December 2011.

Defense wins championships, and no one knows that better than Meyer. He is a master recruiter and his 2012 list of commits proves it. The Buckeyes will be even better by the start of the 2012 season next September.

Even if they can't qualify for a bowl game next season, Spence, Washington and the Ohio State defensive line will make their presence felt in Columbus and around the country before their time is up.
