Carlos Condit on Nick Diaz: 'I Don't Really Know the Guy'
If fans are anticipating a intense build-up prior to UFC 143 between Carlos Condit and Nick Diaz, they aren't likely to hear trash talk directly out of Condit's mouth.
The two welterweights will meet in the main event for the UFC Interim Welterweight Championship. It's an opportunity both competitors deserved after it was announced that Georges St-Pierre would be absent from the event.
As Condit prepares for his bout against Diaz, "The Natural Born Killer" will not likely engage in a verbal war with the Stockton native to add some publicity. In fact, Condit said he doesn't even know him.
“I’ve never met the guy, so honestly I don’t have much of an opinion," Condit told CagePotato.com. "I think he’s got kind of a bad attitude when it comes to being grateful for the position he’s in. But other than that, like I said, I don’t really know the guy.”
Unlike his opponent, Condit prefers to keep his emotions hidden. He lets his actions speak for him once the Octagon door closes. It's a trait that has earned Condit his nickname, and it has also contributed to his success in the UFC.
Diaz's persona might sometimes reflect a negative image. However, he remains one of the most polarizing fighters in the sport today. Condit said his personality doesn't always necessarily attract every fan, but he believes remaining humble will only lead to a more successful career. And he is content with it.
”When I was younger, I felt like I wasn’t getting the notoriety or the exposure that some of these other guys were getting," he said. "But ultimately, when it came down to it, I just gotta be myself, and that’s carried me as far and got me as much exposure and notoriety as somebody acting a fool.”
