Super Bowl Predictions 2012: Baltimore Ravens over New York Giants a Longshot

Jeff GrantJun 1, 2018

The NFL playoffs move into the AFC and NFC championship round on Sunday, but sports bettors are lining up to make their predictions on which two teams will meet up in Super Bowl XLVI on Feb. 5, 2012.

Bovada sports book has established betting odds on all eight potential outcomes of the contest that will be played inside Lucas Oil Stadium, with a Baltimore Ravens' victory over the New York Giants being the longest shot on the board.

Let's take a look at this unique proposition wager from a betting perspective.

New England Patriots' Victory over the NFC

1 of 4

The New England Patriots are currently the favorite to win Super Bowl XLVI, as bettors are lining up to back quarterback Tom Brady this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens in Foxborough.

There's no question that plenty of casual bettors are going to expect Brady to gain revenge over the New York Giants next month.

New England Patriots over the New York Giants (3/1)

Baltimore Ravens' Victory over the NFC

2 of 4

If you anticipate the Baltimore Ravens upsetting the New England Patriots as 7.5-point road underdogs this Sunday—then you can't go wrong in playing this offering.

The Ravens certainly match up well with both remaining NFC squads, as the longest shot on the board is linebacker Ray Lewis lifting his second Lombardi Trophy in defeating the New York Giants.

A victory over the 49ers will also provide a nice pay day—unless of course your last name is Harbaugh.

Baltimore Ravens over the New York Giants (15/1)

San Francisco 49ers' Victory over the AFC

3 of 4

The San Francisco 49ers aren't getting much respect despite being 2.5-point home favorites against the New York Giants in the NFC Championship Game, as 64 percent of the straight-best wagering is coming in on the underdogs.

Forty-Niners quarterback Alex Smith is also someone who doesn't garner much attention at the betting window but could provide a major score in posting a victory over Tom Brady or Joe Flacco.

He must first get past Giants signal-caller Eli Manning.

New York Giants' Victory over the AFC

4 of 4

The New York Giants have been very impressive during the first two rounds of the playoffs, but that ride could very well end Sunday in the NFC Championship Game.

It's important to note that NFL playoff teams that are coming off a victory over the defending Super Bowl champion have lost eight straight times in their next postseason affair.

That powerful trend has me looking in another direction.
