WWE: How Bad a Sign Is It That Wrestlers Are Leaving WWE for TNA Again?

David LevinJan 23, 2012

I look at the current list of rosters in professional wrestling, especially in both TNA and WWE, and ask, "How there is such a separation gap in talent?"

Honestly, if you look at lineups and titles and those who are rising to the top in both companies, in my estimation, there is a level playing field in talent but not in the way the talent is managed.

The WWE is losing talent to TNA because there is no real place for them in the company (Chris Masters reportedly signed with TNA before the end of the 2011 year).

Other wrestlers like John Morrison have been linked to signing with TNA upon being released by the WWE, but there has been no conformation of this rumor. It was also rumored that Morrison's real life girlfriend, Melina, would follow Morrison to Impact Wrestling.

For years, wrestlers have traveled between federations and have come back to their original home (Paul Orndorff, Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson, Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes), and their popularity never waned. I don't see this as such a big deal because of today's wrestling culture.

The WWE is not losing money if stars like a Morrison or a Masters take off for another promotion. Both wrestlers, in my estimation, are like Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin, who left the company to find a home in ROH.

And on the other shoe, we don't see wrestlers like Christian, who ran between both TNA and WWE in the past two years, losing any momentum with the fans or the crowds. Daniel Bryan, a former ROH Champion, and Austin Aries, a former ROH champion, are finding success in other federations.

Because the WWE is a machine that is not just about wrestling but about entertainment, merchandising and marketing, there really isn't anything to worry about. Personally, I think things would be better off if wrestlers like Drew McIntyre, Alex Riley and Ted DiBiase, Jr. all made a change and took a trip to Florida along with the likes of Masters and maybe Morrison and Melina.

It cuts some loose ends from the WWE roster, makes entertainment more excitement and helps the other brand. But it also proves the WWE is not worried who takes the road down south because the talent they have waiting will be just as dynamic and effective.
