I'm Just Saying...Dom Franks Should Apologize to Everybody
As I was watching some late night comedy last night, I stumbled upon an article that left me asking, "What are you thinking?" I don't care what's at stake, but insulting the team that you're playing in less than three days is the last thing you want to do.
Tim Tebow has become a target of scrutiny from the Big XII Champion's defense...namely Dominique Franks. Franks went on record as saying that "Tebow is not among the best three quarterbacks in the country." How can he of all people say that Tebow is not among the best quarterbacks in the country.
If you're campaigning to become the next president of Big XII, I would understand your thought process. But you're playing in the biggest game of the year (again), and the money's on you possibly getting the 'W' for the first time in a long time. Remember all those games when you were supposed to win the big one? How about the last few trips to the BCS Bowl? Guess what? You got crushed then too.
As for Graham Harrell being one of those quarterbacks that you're boasting about, he got served up a serious can of whoop ass at the hands of Ole Miss in a game the Big XII has owned for a long time: The Cotton Bowl. The worse part is that you're the only one who thinks this way of Tebow.
This makes you a lone wolf...and a moron. Remember when the LSU defense talked smack about taking out Tebow in their game earlier this season? Do you remember what happened in that game? The player that did a majority of the talking wasn't even playing that game, and they lost badly.
When the Gators wanted to Tebow to throw the ball more, Tebow didn't like the concept because he wasn't able to run and gun as much as he used to when Chris Leak was the starter. But now, he's able to get the job done...and not put up 60 points in every game. Your Sooners had to use the blindness of the BCS to get into the title game (and set the standards of entry back a full century).
But instead of being satisfied and giving the same props to a team that showed no disrespect to you, you decided to gloat about how the Big XII is so much better. In all honesty, look at the Cotton Bowl drubbing that Ole Miss of the SEC gave to two of the nation's best players (Harrell and Michael Crabtree) a few days ago.
Of course, you guys are forgetting that you have yet to win a BCS Game, and I'm sure you're trying to forget the fact that you couldn't even beat a WAC team in the Fiesta Bowl a few years back.
Here is some food for thought for Dom:
The SEC has five of the nation's top 19 defenses, while Oklahoma is not even in the top 19...or the top 49 for that matter.
Tebow said that he would love to play against one of those Big XII defenses. On Thursday he gets his chance. He didn't get the credit he deserved when he finished third in Heisman voting (one ounce of motivation). He didn't get the credit he deserved when he helped Florida bounce back from that loss to Ole Miss to earn a bid in the BCS Title Game (another ounce of motivation).
And now we got Dominique Franks using his mouth to finish the job and give Florida more reason to continue the streak.
Florida is playing in its fourth NC Game, its second against the Big XII and its second in three years. The Sooners are gunning to get the monkey officially off their backs. After getting chance after chance to win the National Championship, they came up short against both LSU and USC. They are still feeling the sting of the Fiesta Fiasco against Boise State.
Tebow never knocked the defense of the Big XII...but Franks apparently has selective hearing. But if Florida beats Oklahoma (whether by a little or a lot), Franks will try to save face...but he won't get the sympathy of anyone in Florida. In Norman, it's a whole different story.
Best of luck, Oklahoma...but here's some advice for Mr. Franks: Just shut up and play! Let your performance, not your mouth, dictate the outcome of the game. And I hope you play, because if anything happens that prevents you from playing, all the trash talking you're doing to a quarterback that doesn't deserve it will relive the photo that showed Ted Ginn, Jr. on crutches as the Gators celebrated the victory two years ago.
And we wouldn't want that, now would we? I'm not just saying. I'm just saying.
