WWE Tag Team: How Will Titles Be Booked Without Air Boom in the Division?

The Doctor Chris MuellerMay 31, 2018

With the recent suspension of Evan Bourne for 60 days, one has to assume that Air Boom are no more, unless he just comes back in two months and no one ever says anything about it.

Air Boom were actually being booked decently by WWE. They had their own merchandise and theme music and on top of that, they actually kept the titles through a one-month suspension when Bourne was cited the first time, something WWE does not normally do when a suspension is involved.

After he came back I assumed they would drop the titles, but they ended up retaining them, which surprised me. I thought that Evan was in the clear and would not be punished for his Wellness Policy violation.

Now it seems that Kofi is suffering again for Evan's mistake. Will he get a new partner or will he move back into singles competition? Time will tell.

The real question is what will WWE do with the tag team division. Before last week there were basically three teams in the division: Air Boom, The Usos and Epico and Primo.

Hawkins and Reks have never really been in the spotlight outside of appearances on Superstars, so this could be their chance to finally move up the ranks a bit.

They both have the right look to fit in the WWE; they just need to prove they have the skill and charisma.

WWE has been giving more power to Triple H over the past couple years and he has been said to be interested in rebuilding the division, so we could see a couple new teams formed some time soon.

I would really like to see Kofi get a new partner because I feel that he is more suited for tag team wrestling, at least for the time being.

We could always see Kofi begin to pursue the IC or US titles, but I think having him team with someone like Ezekiel Jackson or Yoshi Tatsu would help them get back on the main WWE shows, as well as keeping Kofi relevant in the tag team scene.

There are tons of WWE superstars not being featured regularly who would gladly move into the tag team division if it meant more exposure on TV.

Look at the list of guys we barely ever see on TV outside of Superstars. Johnny Curtis, Alex Riley, JTG, Michael McGillicutty, Trent Barreta, Tyson Kidd and Yoshi Tatsu have been all but erased from the Raw and SmackDown rosters.

I know it is not ideal to just lump two superstars together and call them a tag team, but what other choice does WWE have right now?

They released Harry Smith so a reunion with Tyson Kidd is out of the question, and I do not see an Awesome Truth reunion happening either.

I, like many of you, am a big fan of tag team wrestling and I wish WWE would revitalize the division. It only hurts them if they have a title which is seen as a joke, regardless of how anyone (Vince) feels about tag team wrestling.

It is a fact of business: If you show a lack of interest in part of your product then so will your customers/fans and any potential wrestlers.

WWE used to be littered with tag teams. Names like The Smoking Gunns and Legion of Doom were prominent in the '90s while the 2000s were featuring teams like The Hardys and Edge and Christian.

With Epico and Primo holding the belts right now and The Usos looking to jump up the WWE ladder, I think they could produce a good feud if WWE allows them to.

Adding more teams will always happen because they will never get rid of the tag team titles, but having more than two or three teams in the division is a must for it to be considered anything worth the weight of the belts that represent it.

What do you think—what is the future for the tag team division and the titles in WWE?
