UPDATE: Former Official's Vague Apology May Be Connected to Rose Bowl Party
John Chadima has been at the center of a puzzling probe.
Its lack of transparency would make any secret society envious, and it is only really missing the shrouds, hoods and underground lairs at this point.
As recently reported, Chadima was once a key executive in the Wisconsin athletic program, serving as senior associate athletic director before an abrupt resignation was tendered two weeks ago. A panel was formed and investigation launched.
But launched into what?
The allegations remain a mystery, even after Chadima's lawyer issued a statement first released by Channel 3000 in Madison:
""I have resigned as associate athletic director from UW-Madison so as not to bring disrepute to the University of Wisconsin. I deeply regret leaving under these circumstances and disappointing those people with, and for whom, I have worked," he wrote. "I make no excuses and accept full responsibility."
He apologized to those "have been affected by my recent lapse of judgment. I ask for their forgiveness."
"
If you feel the urge to scratch your head and look quizzically at your neighbor, you are not alone. Without any context in which to place this vague "apology," Chadima could be owning up to a wide range of sins or transgressions.
This is the effect without the cause, the cart before the horse and the confession before the crime. The fan base remains waiting with bated breath, and will continue to wallow in anxiety until the administration breaks its vow of silence.
Officials claim silence is required to ensure the "integrity of the review."
All the while, the integrity of the university leadership is also under review by the Badger community in all its forms.
UPDATE: WKOW-TV reports that a source close to the university's athletics program claims Chadima's resignation was connected to a party during the team's Rose Bowl appearance.
"The source, who spoke to 27 News on the condition of anonymity because the source was not authorized to release information, said Chadima was "inebriated, embarrassing," in connection with a party during Rose Bowl week.
