Floyd Mayweather: Money Makes It Clear He's Not Going to Duck Manny Pacquiao

Jun 7, 2018

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. has made two things clear to the general public in recent weeks.

The first is that his next fight is going to be on May 5, 2012 in Las Vegas.

The second is that he wants to fight Manny Pacquiao. Like, really wants to fight him.

Mayweather proved that point once again on Wednesday. In a media interview with BoxingScene.com and other publications, Money was asked if he has anybody in mind other than Pac-Man. For example, how about Miguel Cotto, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez or Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero?

Mayweather proceeded to shake off all three rumored opponents. Ultimately, all he had to say was this.

"

Right now my main focus is Manny Pacquiao. Team Pacquaio, stop having your excuses. I have my guarantee, so let's make the fight happen. Every day I'm tweeting and tweeting and tweeting. Do I have to tweet again tonight? I'm basically chasing the guy.

"

Mayweather isn't lying about "tweeint and tweeting and tweeting." It all started on Jan. 10 when he called out Pac-Man to fight on May 5, and Money has been issuing similar challenges ever since.

In the meantime, progress towards a fight has been slow. Pac-Man's camp has laid out its terms for a fight, but the two sides don't appear to be close to a deal.

And that prompted Mayweather to tweet this on Tuesday:

It's a good question, and Mayweather proved his point about not ducking the fight by rejecting other opponents.

Make no mistake, the presence of alternative opponents was Mayweather's excuse to cast aside a May 5th bout with Pac-Man. He could have easily chosen to strike a deal with Cotto, Canelo or Guerrero, and he wouldn't have looked like a coward if he did. He has to be in jail less than a month after his May 5th fight, so it's not like he has any flexibility in his schedule.

But nope. Mayweather is going to keep pushing Pac-Man and his camp to make a deal. The clock is definitely ticking to get something done, but you can't say Mayweather is not determined.

You also can't accuse him of ducking Pac-Man anymore. Money has made it clear that he means business.
