Which Leaf Would You Keep?

Sean PaddisonFeb 20, 2008

Heading into the trade deadline, the Leafs lineup boasts maybe four regular players that are worth keeping, those being Boyd, Chad, Vesa and Carlo.

I'm not including the Marlie callups in my assessment. The twin of towers Antropov and Ponikarovsky clearly have some teams drooling. Matt Stajan has done the Leafs a huge favor by having a better year which may have improved his value enough to make him trade bait. Hal Gil might be handy for some teams looking for a really large pilon to use during their practice sessions.

Then you have Kaberle—perhaps Carolina would like a brother tandem at the blue line. If the Fletcher finds a taker for Raycroft the man is a genius. Brian McCabe is an interesting situation, a team like the New York Rangers appear highly adept at outdoing the Leafs in aquiring costly players looking to take a three year vacation while getting paid at the same time.

Steen has tons of potential but he seems to have adopted Matt Stajan's "give me the puck so I can shoot it into the goalie's pads" style. Darcy Tucker appears fed up, it's clear anywhere he goes will benefit from his grind it out style and quick shot.

The Sundin situation pretty much speaks for itself.

Sundin has great value right now, perhaps now more than ever due to the Forsberg situation. Leafs need to capitalize on that on that value, I predict a "last minute" trade to a top four team, probably Vancouver.

I think the Leafs might be able to to get a couple of hotdog vendors and a bag of Sun Chips for that goal scoring phenom Wade Belak. The rest I get a headache specualting about. Oh yeah keep Stralman away from McCabe so that he doesn't get contaminated. I'm interested to hear what others think, this is a to be continued in a part two article.
