Arsenal Transfers: Why Eden Hazard Is Worth Paying Through the Nose for

Jamrock RoverJun 4, 2018

Arsenal fans are enduring a terrible run which has seen the team drop eight points from winning positions in their last four Premier League games. They drew at home to Wolves after leading 1-0, and they lost away to both Fulham and Swansea after leading by the same scoreline each time. Their defence has become incredibly porous, as opponents seem to score from very few real opportunities in each game.

It would seem that Arsenal need to sign some new defenders, and very quickly too. While that may be true, Arsenal are also struggling to keep good possession in midfield and put their opponents under real pressure. Since Cesc Fabregas left, Arsenal are missing goals from their midfielders, and the team is paying the price at the moment.

Arsenal's long list of injured players should start returning very soon, and that should at least strengthen the defence considerably. However, their midfield is still short of genuine top-class players, and I think they need to add a player to the team who can control the attacking side of their game. The current Arsenal team does not have enough of a goal threat from outside the box, and it makes them too predictable for opponents.

Eden Hazard could be the player to make that difference for Arsenal, and I think they should pull out all the stops to buy him from Lille. Arsenal signed Gervinho from the same team last summer, but it appears they missed out on Lille's star player. Gervinho has been good at times, but his inability in front of goal has been incredibly frustrating.

Hazard has a lot more composure on the ball than Gervinho, and he has the ability to take opponents on and beat them too. He usually plays in a wide role, but I think he would be more than capable of playing just behind Robin van Persie. His eye for a pass and ability to score could be just what Arsenal are missing, and his capture could be the boost the team needs for the second half of the season.

Arsene Wenger has always been very cautious with the club's money in the past, but when he does spend big it tends to be in the January transfer window. Players such as Andrey Arshavin and Jose Antonio Reyes have arrived in January in the past, and it's possible that Wenger will invest in a marquee signing again. The club needs a lift at the moment, and Wenger has the money available to him to bid for Hazard if he wants to.

Arsenal would also be an ideal team for Hazard to improve his game and become one of the best players in the world. He would get exposure on a worldwide stage in the most popular league in the world. Arsenal's style of play would ideally suit his game, and he would have the opportunity to become a superstar at the club.

His capture would hopefully inspire others at the club to raise their game and hopefully help Arsenal to push for the all important top four finish they crave. It could also be the trigger that might cause RVP to extend his contract, as it would show the club are prepared to invest in top-quality players.

Of course, there are other teams interested in Hazard, and some of them have more money available to them than Arsenal. Arsenal would need to convince the player that they are the best club to continue his development at and then convince Lille to accept a fair price too. Neither of those tasks will be easy for them, but surely, they at least have to try.

That's it for today.

See you tomorrow.
