2012 Playoff NFL Fantasy Football: Quarterback (QB) Championship Round Rankings

Sean E. DouglasJun 7, 2018

Alex Smith vs. Giants:

If you happened to have Alex Smith in your lineup last week, you were pleasantly surprised to see him not only throw for 299 yards and three touchdown passes, but run for a 28-yard score as well. As a 49ers fan, it refreshing to see what can happen for a team and a quarterback when quality coaches come on board and actually put their players in situations to win.

For all the hell Smith’s taken over the years from Bay Area fans, he’s earned his respect. It’s time to throw out the idea that opposing teams can put the game on Smith’s shoulders, figuring he will choke at some point in the game.

The last time these teams met, Frank Gore was playing through an injury and failed to gain one yard on the ground on six carries. Kendall Hunter was used in the second half and had success on the ground, but the story of that game was the play of Smith, as the 49ers came out throwing against a Giants defense that was selling out to stuff the run.

Expect the Giants to put the game on Smith’s shoulders once again, and it will be interesting to watch if he can have another quality performance with a Super Bowl berth on the line.
