Somebody Call My Momma Because Brodus Clay Is the Best New Thing in WWE Today
Brodus Clay has stormed WWE in a barrage (sorry, Wade Barrett) of shimmying, funk and power. He continued his trend of squash matches last night on Raw with a win over JTG which saw the Funkasaurus get a great reaction from the crowd.
Signs featuring images of Clay and terms like Funkasaurus and "Somebody Call My Momma" littered the crowd last night.
Clay's dancers gave him his intro instead of Garcia in what was a nice addition to his already-entertaining character.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
The way Clay has been able to get over with the crowd has been truly refreshing. Instead of the angry monster we were promised for weeks through videos and delays, we got the newest and quite frankly funniest gimmick in WWE today.
Clay has embraced this character by diving head in. It is easy to see his genuine joy when being in the WWE ring. He is always smiling and dancing while talking trash and whoopin' ass.
Having seen Clay's work on NXT and Superstars I am confident that he will continue to grow. Once WWE puts him in a program with someone and stops having him squash low-card wrestlers, then we will get to see what he is really made of.
It also has to be mentioned that the fact that he is getting over so well with the unconventional look he has is also quite impressive. He has the build of King Kong Bundy, a Mohawk and the Amish-looking beard with no moustache.
I could not be happier that WWE took a chance and decided to give him this character instead of having him be just another monster heel.
When I heard that his idea was being used for Mark Henry I was curious to see what they would do with him, and now that I have seen it I am loving every minute of it.
Sure, he isn't the most technical wrestler and he is certainly nowhere near the most charismatic but for a guy who is just now getting his first real push, you have to be impressed with what he has managed to do.
You know you are doing a good job when your third night with a gimmick on TV sees you have more signs in the audience than some of the bigger names.
I would understand why some people may not enjoy the gimmick, but for me this is like a trip down memory lane. Guys like The Godfather, Flash Funk and Disco Inferno all had gimmicks which were based on characters similar to Clay in one way or another.
His dancers add to the delivery because I think if Clay was coming out on his own and dancing, people wouldn't know what to make of it but when you have two good-looking women dancing with him before and after the match, it becomes much more believable.
I am very curious to know who his first real feud will be with, and I have a suggestion for WWE if they don't already have an idea: Alberto Del Rio.
Clay's former mentor is out of action right now and when he comes back he will need a program. If WWE is not going to throw him into the title picture right away then having him feud with Clay would give Clay more credibility and Del Rio the opportunity to defeat a monster-sized opponent.
I know it is a long shot but I think the feud could work, especially if WWE decides to take a chance and elevate Clay quicker than most wrestlers.
His size is certainly going to work in his favor in regards to being convincing when beating people far more experienced than he is. If your finisher involves lifting someone off the ground and you're not John Cena or one of the other massively built guys in the locker room, then you are out of luck.
If Punk tried to give him the GTS it would be tragic and I am not sure that he could put the Anaconda Vice on him given the sheer size of Clay's arms and upper body.
If you're the Miz, then you will have a hell of a time putting him down with the Skull-Crushing Finale. It won't be good for anyone to have to face Clay.
If WWE books him right, he keeps getting more popular and improves his game every week, then the sky is the limit. Another nice touch is how his opponents always seem a little confused and uncomfortable by his behavior.
Last night when he shimmied against JTG the reaction from the former Cryme Tyme member was hilarious. Clay is not the first person to make his opponents scratch their heads.
Guys like Mick Foley were unconventional champions due to their behavior and physique, and they helped pave the way for guys like Clay to become champion in the WWE someday.
I am also a huge fan of his entrance music. It is a nice change from the rock themes that most guys have. He really is the Funkasaurus. Seeing how he performs in the Rumble may be an indication of how WWE feels about his potential.
Even if he does not win he could make an impact by eliminating several people. Kane has never won a Rumble and he has some of the most memorable moments from the event.
What do you think of Clay's run since becoming the only Funkasaurus in captivity from Planet Funk?
