Peyton Manning: Archie Manning Confirms Son's Heart Is in Indianapolis

The Indianapolis Colts have a great deal of soul-searching to do this offseason, but it's clear where their star quarterback's heart lies. 

FOX Sports reports Archie Manning has come out with news his son would very much like to continue in Indianapolis with the Colts. 

The report quotes Archie Manning, who delves into the latest on his son Peyton's status.

"Peyton kind of likes his roots in Indy. We'll see what happens there," he said. "If that doesn't work and he can get healthy we'll see. That'll all work out. He's just trying to get healthy."

Archie also address the question of a possible trade to the Jets: "I'm not going to get into that. He's got a great attitude. He's just fighting and scratching, trying to get healthy. We'll see what happens."

The plot thickens surrounding the legendary quarterback. 

What it means

Well, you can pretty much cross off Manning going quietly into that good night. That fact is, Peyton has earned the right to be as petulant or as stubborn as any modern player. 

If he is going to hold onto the Colts job and force the front office to push him out, so be it. There will be no tearful retirement coming for one of the greatest to play the game. Nor will there be a smiling Manning accepting his fate in a trade. All of this we pretty much assumed, anyway. 

What's next?

The Colts have the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, which is essentially the same as saying they have Andrew Luck all fitted for his jersey. 

Now we can enjoy a couple months of Luck proving himself during an intensive draft process. All the while the Colts will have to keep a lid on any news leaking from the Manning family.

The Colts can only move on a trade or releasing Manning once they are assured Luck is indeed the real deal. That will not come until he is weighed and measured in the coming weeks.
