Novak Djokovic: Power Ranking Djoker's Top 5 Greatest Moments Ever
At 24 years old and with a spot atop the world tennis rankings, Novak Djokovic is riding high and isn't likely to fall back to Earth any time soon.
That includes the 2012 Australian Open, at which he's the No. 1 seed and the prohibitive favorite to come away with the men's title, the third of his career at Melbourne Park.
But before we busy ourselves pontificating about how The Djoker can hope to improve upon his incredible 2011 campaign this year, let's have a look back at the five finest moments of the big Serbian's burgeoning pro career.
5. Djoker Laughs His Way to Victory at 2011 Australian Open
Djokovic's fantastic 2011 season got off to a rousing start right where he currently finds himself—at the Australian Open.
Djoker parlayed a straight-sets semifinal victory over Roger Federer into a spot in the final against Andy Murray. Djokovic battled the Briton through a tough first set before cruising to relatively easy tallies in the final two frames and his second-career triumph at Melbourne Park.
4. Djokovic Starts the 2011 Season 43-0
Djokovic's thunder down under served as the perfect kick-off to what would turn out to be a 43-0 start to the year. That streak carried Novak all the way into June, with titles tallied at the Dubai Tennis Championships, the Indian Wells Masters, the Miami Masters, the Serbian Open, the Madrid Masters and the Rome Masters.
In other words, Djokovic earned himself a king's ransom in just five months.
Djoker's run came to an end in the semis of the French Open, wherein Federer flustered Novak in four sets.
3. Djoker Avenges French Open Loss to Federer in US Open Classic
Djokovic had to wait until the final Grand Slam event of the year to give FedEx his comeuppance for bringing "The Streak" to a screeching halt.
These two resumed their leg of the "Trivalry" in the semis of the US Open—their fifth meeting at Flushing Meadows in as many years. Federer jumped out to a commanding two-set lead before Djokovic dominated the next two to send the match into a fifth set.
Federer pushed Djokovic to the brink of elimination in the final set, with Novak dropping his serve in the eighth game and the Swiss sensation snagging two match points.
But Djokovic stood strong, saving and breaking back on both occasions before breaking Federer's serve and advancing to the US Open final, vengeance firmly in hand.
2. Novak Owns Nadal in Tournament Finals
Once there, Djokovic found himself matched against Rafael Nadal for the sixth and final time of the calendar year.
Novak emerged victorious each time, defeating Rafa on hard court, clay and grass along the way. All six triumphs came in tournament finals, with two at Grand Slams.
The best of the bunch? A two-hour, 28-minute melee at Wimbledon, in which Djokovic emerged victorious in four sets to earn his first title at the All England Club.
1. Novak Nabs His First Grand Slam Title at 2008 Australian Open
Djokovic first forced his way into the sport's conscience in 2008 at the Australian Open. After losing to Roger Federer in straight sets in the final of the US Open the year prior, Novak came back better than ever, torching FedEx in the semifinal at the Aussie to reach the last match without dropping a single set.
That streak came to an end in the final, as Djokovic dropped the first set to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, though the hiccup hardly prevented him from capturing the title. Djokovic went on to win in four sets, earning his first Grand Slam crown at the tender age of 20 and becoming both the first Serbian to win a Grand Slam singles title and the first person other than Federer or Nadal to do so since 2005.
