Dallas Cowboys Wide Receiver Dez Bryant “Detained” In Miami Night Club

Christian BloodJun 7, 2018

Not 48 hours ago, I published an article that asked this question: Was wide receiver Dez Bryant worth a first-round selection in the 2010 NFL draft?

Among the reasons for that question, even beyond his statistical shortcomings in 2011, was the fact that Bryant seems one bad headline away from having his status compromised, at least potentially.

Well, that bad headline didn’t take long.

WFAA reports that Bryant was detained Sunday night following an apparent fight at a Miami, Fla. nightclub although it is not confirmed that he was arrested.

Who cares?

At this point, Bryant has had the police involved with inappropriate attire at North Park Center in Dallas and now Club Liv in Miami, both within a year’s time.

Even if both of these incidents did not involve an arrest, it completely fits the pattern of behavior that so many feared would define Bryant coming out of Oklahoma State two years ago.

At that time, I didn’t care if Bryant received a watch as a college player that he opted not to share with NCAA investigators. My personal opinion is that it’s none of their business in the first place, especially given the money that Bryant, and many others, make for colleges around the country.

Nonetheless, it was apparent sign of weakness in Bryant that even got that gift noticed. If that’s me receiving that watch inappropriately, I at least hide it until it's “appropriate” for me to own it.

So how did the NCAA ever find out?

How do you think they found out?

Personally, I don’t have the answer, but it probably involved Bryant telling the world about it and sporting it everywhere he went.

No, nobody will notice that!

Bryant is an explosive talent. I fully believe that he has the ability and potential to be among the top three or four receivers in the NFL. I think few would argue this idea.

But potential without proper action and focus eventually leads to nothing.

I’m afraid that this is where Bryant is heading. It’s very clear that he is unable to resist what is now a lifelong temptation to satisfy his ego due to gaping holes in his childhood that nothing since has been able to fill. Watches, money, fame—none of it really matters at the end of the day.

When a guy in some silly bar playing bad music with strobe lights is able to trump everything else going on in your life then there are substantial issues that Jerry Jones, advisor David Wells, Deion Sanders or anybody else will be able to alleviate.

Only Dez Bryant can do that.

But at what expense does this come for the Dallas Cowboys until this happens—if it happens?

Stay tuned.
