Attention, Dwight Howard: Do the Chicago Bulls Want Someone as Stupid as You?

Matt PasterJun 7, 2018

"I have an issue with Dwight Howard. He sounds like an idiot. He sounds like a loser. Great player, no doubt. ย He went for 28 and 15 against the floss formerly known as Joakim Noah last week. But do you want the Howard whoโ€™s apparently too stupid to want to come to the Bulls? Thatโ€™s the Howard weโ€™re seeing now. The idiot Howard," says Steve Rosenbloom of the Chicago Tribune.

Dwight Howard seems to be a sensitive fellow who canโ€™t deal with the questions of theย hospitable local media in Orlando about his impending free agency. Rosenbloom is writing for a newspaper in Chicago, and a team that doesnโ€™t have any realย need to acquire Howard. Imagine what will happen if Dwight gets traded to an even larger market than Chicago, say Los Angelesย or New York.

Dwight seems miffed if the reporters in Orlando ask him anything outside of, "How did practice go today?โ€ How will he deal with the New York reporters who will blame him because the New Brooklyn Nets are sub-.500 again?

They wonโ€™t be as nice as the laid-back Orlando Sentinel reportersย who back down from questions he doesn't feel comfortable with. He will be a scapegoat if he doesnโ€™t deliver them a championship and will be scrutinized like LeBron every time he bangs a free throw off the back of the rim or is pulled from the game in crucial free-throw situations.

Rosenbloom continues on his tirade, โ€œTell you what, wanting to go to a bigger market is a worse athletic crime than LeBron Jamesโ€™ wanting to play in Miami with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. James got ripped by some for teaming up in someone elseโ€™s city instead of trying to be โ€œthe Manโ€™โ€™ in winning a title in Cleveland. Have you ever heard such stupidity? Like there are degrees of title-winning. Ask Karl Malone about degrees of title-winning. Being โ€œThe Manโ€™โ€™ doesnโ€™t matter. Being a champion does. At least James went to a place where he believed he had a chance to win multiple titles.โ€

Questions have arisen about what Dwight really wants. He says he wants to win, and heโ€™s doing that in Orlando. If itโ€™s a big market that he wants, then he will have to deal with this type of treatment on a daily basis. In Orlando he is a hero and can do no wrong. He can play basketball at Rollins College in the offseason without any media scrutiny.

On October 21, 2011, on the front of the New York Post, the deceased face of former dictator Moammar Khadafy was displayed next to a New York Yankee fan. The title read, โ€œKhadafy Killed by Yankee Fan: Gunman had more hits than A-Rod.โ€ย  The Orlando Sentinel writes article like, โ€œPlease Stay Dwight.โ€

Dwight needs to be careful what he wishes for. If a Chicago writer is this scorned about you not being interested in coming to the Bulls, how will it be when you step into the Lion's den in New York? If you get your wish, you better develop some thick skin, and fast.
