UFC 142 Results: Rousimar Palhares Makes Quick Work of Outmatched Mike Massenzio

Rousimar Palhares absolutely dismantled Mike Massenzio.

Palhares knew he needed a quick fight, and he went for it. He brought Massenzio right to the mat, and he was able to earn a submission victory in the first round.

However, this quick work could come back to hurt him in the future. Although he was able to win this bout, he may wish this fight went longer.

Palhares is a notorious head case. He definitely could've used a long fight with the home crowd behind him. Maybe he could've gained some confidence and been stronger mentally going forward.

Instead, there will still be questions about his mentality.

If things start going against him, he might not be able to respond. A lot of his victories come quickly.

That's great.

If his fights go a little longer, though, can anyone be sure how he will respond?

Of course not.

With that said, there is no reason to take anything away from Palhares.

He destroyed Massenzio, and he didn't wait to dominate. Massenzio had an outside chance of winning, but Palhares snuffed that out right away.

The longer this fight would've went, the better chance Massenzio would've had. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't able to extend the fight at all.

While that was best for this fight, this doesn't help Palhares for the future.

He's trying to improve as a fighter, and a long fight would've behooved him.

Either way, the fight was a destruction.

Palhares may have manhandled Massenzio, but he overmatched him so much that it doesn't mean too much going forward.
