UFC 142 Results: Thiago Tavares Win Means Nothing

Dan RenfroJun 7, 2018

Thiago Tavares may have defeated Sam Stout, but by no means does that mean he's returning to his previous form.

Many people thought that Tavares vs. Stout could be the fight of the night.

No such luck.

It was a solid and technical bout, no doubt. Unfortunately, it simply didn't have enough entertainment in the fight.

There's no doubt that Tavares was the better fighter tonight. In fact, he's probably a better fighter overall. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean he is ready to become an elite fighter again.

Tavares has slowed down since he started his career 12-0. He has looked better as of late, and he looked extremely solid against Stout.

Nevertheless, solid is about it.

Tavares was far from impressive, and that will probably be how the rest of his career will go. Some people might get excited and think he will have a series of good fights.

Don't get your hopes up.

Again, Tavares is a very good fighter. He will most likely continue to be a very good fighter for the remainder of his career.

That's it.

Being a good fighter is nothing to be ashamed of. Tavares could still have a great fight or two left in him, but don't expect it.

This win is good for his career and his psyche.

Outside of that, this win means absolutely nothing.
