Miami Heat: LeBron James Should Ditch Comparisons to Tim Tebow

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

Before LeBron James and the Miami Heat headed into Denver to face the Nuggets on Friday, James talked about what any normal person in Denver talks about: Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow.

But he didn't simply praise the second-year pro who has led the Broncos to the Divisional Round. James actually said he and Tebow were similar individuals.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up a second. He doesn't mean that, does he?

Let's examine what James said.

"

He's one of the most intriguing, competitive athletes that we have today. He's all about winning, and he praises everybody but himself. He's a very humble guy, and I respect that.

"

Red flag right there. Since when has James been humble? "The Decision" certainly wasn't humble. When he throws down a dunk, he doesn't thank God while "Tebowing." While Tebow is humble, James is not.

Next statement.

Said James:

"

You know, I'm one of those guys who has been in those shoes before, as well. Still in that boat, where a lot of people doubt you, and you've just got to try to prove them wrong. So I understood a lot of what he's going through, what he went through, and it's good to see him have success now. You want to see greatness, you always want to see guys succeed. Especially when people count you out from Day 1. That's what I love about him. I always tweet about him. He's always great to watch.

"

First of all, when you're the most hyped basketball player of this generation, there isn't a whole lot of doubt thrown your way on Day 1. While Tebow was largely considered a reach in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft, James was undoubtedly the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft.

The doubt thrown at James now is because of his late-game woes, which have disappointed people. Tebow has actually gained believers after being labeled a third-string quarterback in the offseason.

If James wants to admire Tebow, go right ahead. But he shouldn't be comparing himself to Tebow. They are nothing alike.
