College Football Recruiting 2012: Scout and Rivals' Most Overrated Recruits
For this, I'm just going to give you a quick rundown of a couple recruits on the Scout.com and Rivals' lists whom I think are overrated. Like any other person with an opinion, I have some differences in my lists from theirs.
I'm going to give you both the most overrated recruit on the overall rankings lists of players from both Scout.com and Rivals.com.
Let's get it on.
Erik Magnuson, OT
1 of 4Don't get me wrong—I like Magnuson, a Michigan commit.
However, Rivals has him No. 49 on their board, which is a bit rich for me.
At 6'6" and 275 pounds, Magnuson has a good frame and solid technique. I just wonder some about his foot quickness and mirror ability on the edges.
Will he be able to play LT, or is he RT?
Or is he an OG?
Demetrious Cox, S
2 of 4Cox is a solid player. He's 6'1", 185 pounds and will be a solid college safety.
Cox is athletic, instinctive and has good ball skills—I just don't think he's one of the top 100 players in America.
Scout has him at No. 97 over prospects I like more, such as Matt Jones, Geno Smith, Noor Davis, Evan Boehm, Zach Kline and Brock Stadnik.
I mark Cox as an overrated prospect for this piece.
Brionte Dunn, RB
3 of 4A physical, power-bruising back with good straight-line speed—that's what Brionte Dunn is. Period.
Which is totally fine.
However, the 6'1", 215-pounder is a bit too straight-linish for me, lacks some wiggle in the open field and has inconsistent instincts.
He's not my 32nd best player on my board, which is where Scout.com has him.
Josh Harvey-Clemons, LB/WR
4 of 4JHC is a nice player. Seriously. Some list him as an ATH, while others have him as an OLB.
He's a 6'4", 210-pound athletic football player who doubles as a WR and LB.
Harvey Clemons just is not my 19th-best player, and that's where Rivals has him. I think he's going to be good, but 19th is too high; he's therefore overrated, per Rivals.
