Chris Mortensen Fishing for Muck to Rake?

Raider Card AddictJan 4, 2009

Oh, when you can't come up with garbage on your own...look to the Raiders to spread some gossip.

That was the initial look we saw when the report was released earlier that one group, led by billionaire C. Dean Metropoulos, wanted to buy 10 percent of the Oakland Raiders. From the layman's point of view, this "discussion" was designed to both get more money into Oakland's hands, but also to buy a club and move it back to LA.

This would all be fine and dandy, however, considering the source: Chris Mortensen. You'd have a better time getting the information from a horse.

The Raiders, in kind, responded via Amy Trask, who had this to say:

“We are not negotiating with this group. We know who they are and that they want to purchase the controlling interest in a team. This team is not available to them. They are unhappy about that and have turned to Chris to assist them in their efforts, which is easy to do since Chris contacted no one with the Raiders to ascertain if there was any truth to his report. There is not. It would have been so easy for him to contact us and ask if we are negotiating with this group. We are not.” (Source: Yahoo Sports)

So, the nitty-gritty is this. Chris seems to think that stirring up the Raider Nation into believing the Raiders are going to be sold, and then moved...is this another hair-brained idea that won't hold water?

Before you take Chris and his opinion as solid gold, you might want to research this C. Dean Metropoulos fellow a little bit further. As it turns out, he was also supposed to be interested in buying the Jaguars back in July, and in the past it's been mentioned he tried to buy both the Raiders and the Dolphins.

With that being said, I wonder if Chris took this tidbit and tried to run with it. Or is he trying to spread the garbage around because there isn't any story to run with in the first place?

Time to come clean, Chris. Muckraking went out of style a long time ago.
