Liverpool News: Reds Win by Making Steven Gerrard Face of Club's Future

Liverpool made the right decision in making sure that Steven Gerrard remained the face of the club, even after he is done playing with them. 

You simply can't quantify what Gerrard has meant to the Reds history. He joined them when he was eight as a member of the youth team and never looked back. 

Getting hitched when you are so young seems rather ridiculous. Well, Gerrard was smitten with Liverpool from the moment he could decide such loyalties. Just about 25 years later, he is still very much in love with Anfield. 

Mirror Football reports Gerrard has been given a new deal that will more than likely take him until retirement. The contract runs through the 2013-2014 campaign, at which point he can take on an ambassadorial position.

This is the club I love and is the club I have supported since I was a young boy. I am living the dream as the captain of one of the biggest clubs in the world. I love coming to work every day and the experiences I have had since I was eight years of age and first signed for the club, I wouldn't change them for the world. To extend that and to hopefully have some more good times in a red shirt is what I want.

The contract came just a day after Gerrard sent home the game winner against in the Carling Cup semifinal first leg win at Manchester City.

The Reds skipper did what he had done so often, and that is, take Liverpool on his back. It is rare to find a player that is so committed to the club for such a long period of time. 

Gerrard is widely considered one of the best English footballers of all-time. He was born in Merseyside and will continue to make it a very special place as he heads toward the last leg of his amazing career. 

The skipper says he is living the dream, but it's Liverpool and their supporters that have truly lucked out. There is nothing left to do but savor the final years of a Liverpool legend.
