Super Bowl Predictions 2012: Patriots and Giants Destined for Super Bowl Rematch

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

The New England Patriots would love a chance to play the New York Giants in the Super Bowl this year and avenge their loss to Big Blue in Super Bowl XLII that destroyed their perfect season.

Although many Patriots players on that losing Super Bowl team of 2007 are no longer with the franchise, players such as Tom Brady and Wes Welker badly want another shot at the Giants for that loss.

Another title for Brady and head coach Bill Belichick would put them in the most elite company among the legends of the NFL.

How possible is another Giants and Patriots Super Bowl matchup? It's very possible.

There are a few reasons why these two teams will make the Super Bowl and play each other in February.

Why New York will make the Super Bowl

Eli Manning was not the reason for the Giants' success in 2007—the defense led that team—but Manning's career season has made Big Blue a very dangerous team.

Manning threw for 4,933 yards this year, more than 900 more than his previous career high. He also has the best trio of wide receivers in football, which includes Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham and breakout star Victor Cruz.

In addition to Manning's fantastic play this season, the Giants defense has been a major reason for their success during the regular season and on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons in the Wild Card Round.

New York's defense puts a lot of pressure on opposing quarterbacks with their superior pass rush, and against the Falcons, they sacked quarterback Matt Ryan twice, and hit him seven times.

Manning's passing attack and the Giants' pass rush will lead them past the Green Bay Packers this week and over their opponent in the NFC Championship game, which would be the New Orleans Saints or San Francisco 49ers.

Why New England will make the Super Bowl

The Patriots are led by quarterback Tom Brady and the league's No. 2-ranked passing offense. Brady has many reliable receivers and tight ends to throw to, two of the most important being Rob Gronkowski and Wes Welker.

Gronkowski caught 17 touchdown passes this season, the most ever in a single season for a tight end. He has amazing strength and runs his routes tremendously. Gronkowski is arguably the most difficult pass-catcher to defend in the NFL, and teams will have nightmares trying to stop him this postseason.

Welker is the best possession receiver in football and has established himself as an elite player. He and Gronkowski will allow Brady to continue the success of the passing offense, and that will lead the Patriots past some mediocre teams left in the AFC playoffs.

The New York Giants are the hottest team in the NFL, and Brady and the Patriots have a chip on their shoulder. These two teams will meet in the Super Bowl and give fans an exciting rematch with another title on the line.
