Derrick Rose's Injury Concerns Make Gilbert Arenas Perfect for Chicago Bulls

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

Chicago Bulls superstar point guard Derrick Rose is battling a turf toe injury, and while this is not something new to him, the team should be concerned going forward.

For a player who uses his quickness and speed to his advantage at both ends of the floor, Rose's feet and toes need to be in great shape come playoff time.

Signing veteran point guard Gilbert Arenas, who is still a free agent, would be a perfect option for the Bulls this season.

The Bulls called up veteran point guard Mike James from the NBA's Development League on Wednesday with Rose out, and also were without guards Rip Hamilton and CJ Watson.

James is not going to give the Bulls any scoring, defense or playmaking at his age, and he only played one minute Wednesday against the Washington Wizards.

Chicago has to sign Arenas because he would give them the versatility of being able to play well at both point guard and shooting guard.

Arenas is a very good scorer and has good shooting range from the outside, but he also has experience as a point guard from his years with the Washington Wizards and Orlando Magic.

Young point guard John Lucas III is not a bad player, but he doesn't have the versatility or experience that Arenas can offer the Bulls.

Arenas has a career scoring average of over 21 points per game, and while he won't score that many points every night for the Bulls, there's no reason he can't average 10-15 points each game with enough playing time.

The Bulls addressed a weakness this offseason by acquiring a reliable scorer at shooting guard by signing Hamilton, but at age 33 there is no guarantee he stays healthy for most of the season.

Signing Arenas would really improve the depth at guard for the Bulls, and give the team another player capable of scoring if injuries become a real problem for them this season.

There aren't many free-agent guards left who can offer the scoring and versatility Arenas can, so Chicago needs to sign him before another team does.

Arenas didn't fit well with the Orlando Magic last season, but with the Bulls he would be a welcome addition to a team that needs more depth.
