NBA Trade Rumors: Blowing Up Celtics' Big 3 Would Be Disastrous

Gabe ZaldivarJun 7, 2018

The loss to the Mavericks was hard to take, but it is far too soon for the Boston Celtics to slip into panic mode and deal one of the Big Four.

Dealing one of them is exactly what is being bandied about by the good people that cover the Celtics. NESN put forth a question that should polarize the Boston faithful. Their question is simple, should the Celtics trade a member of the Big Four?

NESN does Rajon Rondo the favor of including him into the realm originally held by just Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and and Ray Allen. Being one of the best point guards in the league will do that.

The reason for such an alarming question stems from the aging group showing far more mediocrity than is accepted by Celtics fans. Only the Lakers are just as paranoid about losses, and that would be the only thing the two sides share.

There is no one player that can be swapped out that would make this team better than it is. That is the first thing to remember going forward.

This is a finely-tuned machine that may be a little long in the teeth but is nevertheless built to win as is. You only have to look at how the train came off the tracks when they messed with chemistry by sending Kendrick Perkins off to Oklahoma City.

Paul Pierce is back and the team is 4-2 since their leader stepped foot back in the lineup. And the Celtics leader knows what the issues are. Pierce told the Boston Globe the following prior to their game against the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday night.

"

We know where we’re at. We’re 4-4 and that shows we’re just a .500 team. We’ve been inconsistent. That’s where we are right now, until we get better.

It could be the schedule, could be that we didn’t get the long training camp. But, you know, everyone is in the same boat. We can’t make that as an excuse.

"

Pierce is not about to make excuses for a team that should be well on their way to another deep playoff run.

Really, the only thing this team needs is a bruiser down low that can bang. They lost that in Perkins and centers just are not abundantly available in the NBA.

No team is going to get the Celtics the big man they crave, especially not for an aged Kevin Garnett or a Ray Allen that is near his end as well.

The fact is this core group works in Boston, and there is no reason to tweak it. Just wait and things will get better. With time, that tough mental attitude will win over the locker room, and the victories will follow soon after.
