LSU vs. Alabama: Tigers and Tide Won't Meet in Championship Rematch Next Season

The Alabama Crimson Tide and LSU Tigers aren't going to playing for national championship again next year.

If the natural course of the season doesn't do it, the BCS certainly will.

The two teams were easily the best in the nation this year. They dominated every other opponent on the schedule but each other and it really wasn't even close.

Next season will undoubtedly be different.

The chances of the two teams being two of the best are damn high, but the chances of USC or Oregon coming out of the Pac-12 unbeaten or with one loss—likely at the hands of one another—is also very likely.

If the option to pit a one-loss Oregon or USC vs. a one-loss Alabama or LSU against the Tigers or Tide arises as it did this season with Alabama, Oklahoma State and Stanford, don't expect the SEC to get the nod.

There is no mistaking that LSU and Alabama were the two best teams in the country this season, but if the system is the same in 2012—without a plus-one or top four playoff—the SEC is unlikely to be given the same opportunity.

Fans and teams want to see someone else get a chance to play for the title. If Bama beats LSU or LSU beats Bama next year, expect that to be the end of their championship run.

Whether it be a Pac-12, Big 12 or even Big Ten team, the country will want to see somebody else get a shot.

As ugly as the games were, we were privileged enough to see the two best teams in the country play for the title this year.

Don't expect that same courtesy next season, even if the situation is exactly the same.
