A Big Bowl Of College Football Surprise!

With only three bowl games remaining, what has been unexpected so far and who is already partying in the streets?

Champs Sports Bowl

Everyone knew that Florida State is on the upswing, but are they at the dominant level of the late 90’s?

Not at all.

Still, a 42-13 win over Wisconsin was quite an uncharacteristic Seminole performance as compared to the last few years.

Although Wisconsin had a disappointing year, it was still a dominant show over a real power team in the Badgers. But let's be honest, there is no excuse for the Seminoles not to be back at the top of college football. If one adds the years of coaching experience on the Seminole sidelines, it equals the age of the Pyramids.

Chick-fil-A Bowl

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets not only buzzed into the Chic-fil-A Bowl with great confidence, they were determined to sting the hell out of the LSU Tigers.

Just coming off an incredible year with a 9-3 record for rookie head coach Paul Johnson, second in the nation in rushing, and a boisterous win over the rival Georgia Bulldogs, the Jackets were armed and ready...or were they?

No one likes to spoil a good party, but that is exactly what Les Miles and the LSU Tigers did. After a disappointing season for LSU, they finished on a high note with a 38-3 throttling of Georgia Tech.

With some coaching changes by LSU and the future potential of freshman quarterback Jordan Jefferson, next season should be much improved for the Tigers.

AllState Sugar Bowl

It was supposed to be another Georgia vs. Hawaii matchup from last season—total domination. However, no one told Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide that they would be playing the role of Hawaii.

Basically, what you had was an undefeated Utah team that came to play and brought the farm on the line of scrimmage.

Losing a game you shouldn’t eventually happens and that’s understandable, but to get physically pushed around and manhandled at the line by the Utes? Bama nation feels violated right now. Quarterback John Parker Wilson spent most of the evening flossing turf out of his teeth. Tasty!

Heck, when Georgia lost to West Virginia in the Sugar Bowl years back, it wasn’t at the line…it was speed, elusiveness, and flawless execution-basically, smoke, and mirrors.

Outback Bowl

South Carolina and Iowa looked to be a grinder.

Honestly, if Steve Spurrier and Lou Holtz, two of the great coaches and recruiters of all time, can’t win consistently at South Carolina, who can? With dreadful quarterback play for the Gamecocks, the Iowa Hawkeye’s pumped out a convincing 31-10 win at the Outback Bowl.

NFL-bound running back Shonn Greene of Iowa finished the game with 121 yards on the ground and three touchdowns. This is Coach Kirk Ferentz’s fourth bowl win with the Iowa Hawkeye’s.
