Manchester United Transfer News: Odds of Acquiring Rumored Targets
It's no secret. The period during which the transfer window is opened is a nasty time full of rumors—some legitimate and some ludicrous.
The mid-season window is even worse because it's only a month long. You're bound to hear all kinds of crazy things in the coming weeks.
With that being said, there have been a whole lot of rumors surrounding Manchester United (as always), so here's a look at the odds of the recent ones coming true.
Demba Ba, Newcastle
Ba has been at the center of plenty of speculation ever since it was revealed he had a buyout clause in his contract. This has drawn interest from plenty of squads, including the Red Devils.
According to this report, "a member of Demba Ba’s management team has confirmed Manchester United are interested in the Newcastle striker."
Ba has been brilliant in his first season with Newcastle, netting 15 goals in just 19 league matches.
Still though, do the Red Devils really need him? They have a slew of capable strikers who are really just trying to get healthy or get into form right now. Another forward wouldn't help that.
The chances of the Red Devils actually acquiring Ba are slim, and that's without even mentioning the fact he's unlikely to leave Newcastle at all this month.
Chances: Slim to None
Wesley Sneijder, Inter Milan
According to caughtoffside.com, Inter is prepared to sell Sneijder to any club willing to fork over the £25 million.
The report goes on to state that Sneijder is an unlikely target for the Red Devils because of their elimination from the Champions League, but don't forget the talented midfielder has been a Sir Alex Ferguson target for a long time.
United really lacks creativity and pace in the midfield, and Sneijder would provide just that, while taking some of the pressure off Rooney and Chicharito.
Still, as much as Man U needs the Dutchman, we heard these Sneijder rumors for a long time during the summer and they never came to fruition.
Chances: Medium
Neven Subotic, Borussia Dortmund
What Manchester United most needs is some depth on the back-line. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are two talented young players, but they have often had to play out of position.
After them you have Nemanja Vidic, who is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, Rafael and Fabio, who have been injury prone and Rio Ferdinand, who has questionable fitness right now.
The Red Devils may just have to pick up another young center-back and Subotic would be that man.
According to caughtoffside.com, Subotic has long been linked with Man U.
The 23-year-old Serbian serves as possibly the easiest January fix for United.
Chances: Good
